Olympic Historian Philip Barker was in Rome for the Flame of Peace lighting ceremony and has followed the Relay of Peace day-by-day on its 50-day journey through 8 European countries. You can read about every stage of the Relay of Peace here.

Barker's final report will be live on Friday after the Flame is unveiled at the Opening Ceremony.

The Games are spread over 13 venues with more than 4,000 athletes from 50 European countries competing for 199 gold medals in 15 sports with 21 disciplines.
