do-you-know
the latest edition of The insidethegames.biz Magazine is ready to read online NOW?

On November 9, 1989, the world changed as the Berlin Wall came tumbling to the ground.

It is now approaching 30 years since that historic night, which not only transformed the global political picture, but also the shape of international sport. Chief columnist David Owen has looked back on that period of upheaval and explored how the Olympic Movement adapted.

Out of this new order emerged new countries with authoritarian regimes which have faced much criticism on the international stage but who increasingly see sport as a way of enhancing their profile.

The term “sportswashing” has been coined to describe an apparent attempt by nations to wash away their bad news with the spectacle of top-class international action and chief feature writer Mike Rowbottom has explored this phenomenon.

We have also used this edition of The insidethegames.biz Magazine to feature two Presidents at key stages of their careers.

Britain’s Sebastian Coe is starting a second four-year term in charge of the International Association of Athletics Federations and his tenure so far cannot be described as being short of incident.

Chief senior reporter Liam Morgan has spoken to Witold Bańka, who is due to take over as President of the World Anti-Doping Agency.

It would be remiss of us not to mention next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo. We have explored the issue on everyone’s lips - the rising heat in the Japanese capital and what can be done to cool down.
