Two athletes alongside Bajrang Punia and Sakhshi Malik were protesting against former president of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who was accused of sexually harassing six female wrestlers.

After UWW lifted the ban from WFI, the ad-hoc committee organised Olympic trials in March, and Vinesh and Anshu earned their places in the National team, while Bajrang failed to reach the finals.
