Paralympic athletics_9_JulyJuly 10 - With exactly 50 days to go to the London 2012 Paralympics, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has announced plans to broadcast an unprecedented 580 hours of live online sport from the Games via its website.

The Paralympics will begin on August 29 and run through to September 9 and during each day of the Games the IPC website will broadcast four channels of uninterrupted live coverage with English commentary.

There will be a dedicated channel each for athletics (pictured top), swimming and wheelchair basketball while a fourth will cover a range of sports.

Meanwhile, a fifth channel will broadcast a mixture of events with Spanish commentary.

In addition, over 1,000 hours of sporting action from a number of venues will be made available as video on-demand during the course of the Games, and both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be shown live.

Two daily five-minute news bulletins will also be produced in English and Spanish.

"Our aim is to make www.paralympic.org the number-one place in the world for content about the Paralympic Games during London 2012," said IPC media and communications director Craig Spence (pictured below).

"A team of 60 people will be delivering the most comprehensive coverage ever through live action, video on-demand, images, reports, social media and live results.

"We want the excitement and drama that spectators feel in the venues in London to be conveyed all across the world.

"No matter whether you're sitting at home or at work, www.paralympic.org will be the best place for information and action during the Games."

Spence  added: "We're very excited about all our plans and in the coming weeks we will be making some major announcements about new innovations we will be bringing to the Paralympics.

"These will give all visitors to our website the feeling that they are actually sat in the venue watching the sporting action or attending one of the Ceremonies."

Supporting the live and on-demand video streams will be 22 writers who will produce daily previews and reviews of all 20 Paralympic sports while feature writers will craft regular interviews and profile stories of the athletes.

There will be an additional six photographers to capture the action from the Games and a team working on the IPC's social media forums such as Facebook and Twitter.
