Britain, currently sitting second in the medal standings behind the Ukraine with 30 medals, secured two more golds in Montreal.

But multi-Paralympic champion Ellie Simmonds had to make do with bronze in the women's S6 50m freestyle, even though she finished in fourth place, only to be upgraded following the disqualification of Germany's Tanja Groepper, behind American Noga Nir-Kistler and winner Emanuela Romana of Italy.

Two-time world champion and reigning Paralympic champion Matt Walker added a third World Championship crown to his collection as he touched home ahead of teammate Josef Craig in the S7 50m freestyle in a time of 28:50.

"I'm delighted with that," said Walker, who won bronze in this event at London 2012.

"Last year was such a tough year emotionally for me.

"At London I was disappointed I didn't win but I was happy to be there on the podium at my home Games.

"But last year I didn't get to hear my national anthem and today I did.

"Going into that race tonight, I took it steady through the first 25 and then kicked like hell to the wall and it got me there."

London 2012 silver medallist Oliver Hynd continued his meteoric rise by bagging his second gold of the Championships, adding the SM8 400m freestyle title to the 200m individual medley he won the night before and he was followed home by older brother Sam Hynd.

"I'm really pleased with that race," said 18-year-old Oliver.

"After winning silver last year I felt I had a bit of unfinished business and it hurt losing out on gold by such a small margin in London.

"Coming in here I wanted to put in my all to get the gold and it feels great to have done that.

"Today has been a tough day.

"Swimming six races in three days has caught up with me so I'm glad to have a bit of a rest now ahead of the relay at the end of the week."

Teammate Jessica Long followed suit by adding the S8 400m freestyle crown to her SM8 200m individual medley gold from the previous day's action.

"My strategy was not to take it out too fast to save energy for the end," said Long.

"My goal for the rest of the Championships is honestly just to have fun.

"It's the year after London I'm just trying to have a good time."

Valerie Grand'Maison thrilled the home crowd inside the Parc Jean-Drapeau by storming to victory in the S13 women's 100m butterfly.

"I didn't have any expectations for this race," said the London 2012 200m individual medley champion.

"In the butterfly you can see the swimmers next to you and I was dying.

"So many thoughts came through my mind but I tried to stay focused and I'm so happy now."
