Germany's Belgrade European Cup winner Sappho Coban of Germany took the first gold of the day, beating Brazil's Junior European Cup bronze medallist Jessica Pereira in the final of the under 52 kilogram division in front of a crowd of 5,000.

Coban went ahead early in the contest when her opponent was penalised for passivity.

It was Pereira who took the first score of the contest, however, after scoring a yuko off of a ko-soto-gari.

Coban did well to keep her composure after this and her patience paid off when she managed to throw Pereira with a sumi-gaeshi for a yuko.
