Franz Steinle has been elected as President of the German Ski Federation President ©Bongarts/Getty ImagesDecember 29 - Franz Steinle has been elected as President of the German Ski Federation President (DSV) replacing Alfons Hörmann, who succeeded Thomas Bach as President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) earlier this month.

The 64-year-old, who has served as DSV vice-president since 2005, was elected to lead the national governing body at its General Assembly in Oberstdorf today.

"Under the Presidency of Alfons Hörmann, the German Ski Association further enhanced its strong position on an international stage," Steinle said.

"Together we are aiming at continuing this successful path.

He added that the DSV's focus is now on the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as junior sport.

Steinle already has a strong background in international sports administration, having served on a number of International Ski Federation (FIS) committees as well as the National Anti-Doping Agency of Germany.

He is the President of the Higher Regional Court of Stuttgart and was President of the Ski Association of Swabia for six years.

Hörmann, who is also a FIS Council member, was named as an Honorary DSV President during the assembly.
