After dominating proceedings in the opening two days of action here at The Hydro, winning both men's and women's team and individual all around competitions, the all-England steam roller satisfied its thirst for gold with another three gold medals on the apparatus.

Both Max Whitlock and Claudia Fragapane added a third gold apiece to the team and all around individual golds picked up over the past two days of competition, while Rebecca Downie secured her second.

Whitlock's victory came in the opening contest of the evening, where he scored a 15.533 in the men's floor exercise, an event he won gold in at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow.

The result saw the 21-year-old top Canada's Scott Morgan and New Zealand's David Bishop, who finished in second and third respectively.

Whitlock was unable to add to his gold tally in the pommel horse and was, once again, forced to settle for silver as Scotland's Daniel Keatings put in a great performance to take the win.

Whitlock had accepted silver four years ago at the Delhi Games and, in the form he was in, would have been confident of taking gold here in Glasgow.

Keatings' score of 16.058 blew the competition apart, however, with the total too high even for Whitlock as the Scot was able to add Commonwealth gold to his 2013 European title.

The pair's Great Britain team mate, and Whitlock's English compatriot, Louis Smith, finished in third, rounding off a superb podium in what was the most exhilarating contest of the evening.

"I was just thinking of the crowd when I was getting my medal," said Keatings.

"My mind went blank, I was just so overjoyed and overwhelmed with the whole experience.

"I knew it was going to be a tough day.

"You have Smith who has obviously put in amazing results over the past eight years, you have Whitlock who has been in top form during this competition, so the gold could have gone to any of us."

Fragapane's success came in the women's vault as she secured a fourth consecutive gold medal for England in the event.

The 16-year-old performed two intoxicating vaults, one of which was a double twisting Yurchenko, to score an average of 14.633 and finish ahead of Canada's Elsabeth Black.

In third came India's Dipa Karmakar as she won the country's first ever medal on the apparatus, averaging 14.366.

For her all-important second vault, the Indian performed a rare handspring double front, a move that holds a difficulty rating of 7.000.

The move paid off for Karmakar as she secured the highest single vault total and 'vaulted' up the standings in to third.

Rebecca Downie won England's third and final gold of the day as she became the oldest winner in an individual women's artistic gymnastics event, at the tender age of 22 years, 188 days.

In an extremely close contest, Downie edged out Australian competitor Larrissa Miller by 0.100 points to take gold with a score of 14.666 and add a Commonwealth title to the European gold she won in Sofia, Bulgaria, earlier this year.

Ruby Harrold added another medal for England as she finished just behind the top two with a score of 14.366.

In the final contest of the evening, Scott Morgan won Canada's first gold medal in the artistic gymnastics rings event since 1990.

Morgan followed on from his silver on the floor exercise to lead a Canadian one-two on the rings with a score of 15.100.

His team mate Kevin Lytwyn was just behind in second, while Scotland's Daniel Purivs gave the locals one final cheer by securing bronze.
