Professional services firm Deloitte has become the first official sponsor of the 8th ASEAN Para Games in Singapore signing a S$500,000 (€332,000/$371,000) deal.

The sponsorship follows Deloitte’s backing of the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore last month and the 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games.

It will be a Tier One sponsor of the ASEAN Para Games under the agreement.

Deloitte will contribute cash and professional services to the running of the Games, including providing assistance in marketing, risk management, as well as in the provision of Games volunteers.

The ASEAN Para Games are due to take place from December 3 until 9 and will feature around 2,000 athletes from 11 Southeast Asian countries across 15 sports.

"This partnership with the Asean Para Games underscores Deloitte's commitment in encouraging more youths with disabilities to get in touch with sports," said Deloitte Singapore chief executive Philip Yuen

"It also signifies the start to our long-term focus towards helping Singapore build a more inclusive society in which people with disabilities are empowered to reach their potential and be integral members of the society."

Officials of the ASEAN Para Games have set themselves a target of raising SGD$5 million (£2.4 million/$3.7 million/€3.3 million) in sponsorship.

"We are confident of hitting the target because what we have seen this year is an upswelling of pride and ownership for the sports events that we have been staging," said Lim Teck Yin, chairman of the Local Organising Committee.

"I want as many companies as possible from the private sectors to come on board no matter what funds they bring on to the table.

"It will be fully appreciated."
