The Awards, organised by the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) and Sport Singapore (SportSG), honour the most deserving individuals and teams in sports for last year and are supported by Tote Board.

Swimmer Joseph Isaac Schooling has been nominated for sportsman of the year along with table tennis player Zhan Jian and badminton player Derek Wong Zi Liang.

Schooling won three medals at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, including gold in the 100 metres butterfly, having already become the first Singaporean to win a Commonwealth Games swimming medal at Glasgow 2014 with silver in the same event. 

Jian won gold in the men's singles and team table tennis events at Glasgow 2014, while Derek Wong claimed men's singles badminton silver and mixed team bronze in the Scottish city. 

In the sportswoman of the year category, shooter Jasmine Ser Xiang Wei faces competition from table tennis player Feng Tianwei, swimmer Tao Li and bowler Jazreel Tan.

Jasmine Ser struck gold in the 50m rifle three positions event at Glasgow 2014, as Feng won singles, doubles and team tennis titles. 

Li bagged silver in the 50m butterfly at the Asian Games.

Jazreel was Singapore's most bemedalled athlete at Incheon 2014, winning four medals, including gold in the team event. 

Among the other categories are sportsboy and sportsgirl of the year, as well as coach of the year, and team of the year in both an event and sport.

Sportsboy/sportsgirl team of the year in a event is also recognised, as is the best sports event of the year locally and internationally, and the most inspiring sports story of the year.

“The year 2014 was a particularly memorable one for our athletes and teams where they punched above their weight and proved their mettle at three major Games - Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympic Games and the Asian Games,” said Annabel Pennefather, chairperson of Singapore Sports Awards 2015 Organising Committee.

“There were many commendable nominations put forward by the National Sports Associations for consideration.

“It is indeed very encouraging to see representatives from different sports making the final shortlist.

“We look forward to the announcement of the winners and celebration of the Singapore Sports Awards on August 5.”

Of the 11 awards, eight were finalised by the SNOC, with the finalists for the other three awards, best sports events of the year locally and internationally, and the most inspiring sports story of the year, were judged and managed by guidelines and criteria set by SportSG.

The main Awards Selection Committee was chaired by Tan Chuan-Jin, Minister for Social and Family Development and President of the SNOC, while Tan Eng Liang, vice-president of the SNOC, chaired the Selection Committee for the Sportsboy and Sportsgirl awards.

Bernard Tan, SportSG’s Board Member, led the Selection Committee for the Local and International Best Sports Events awards, while the Most Inspiring Sports Story of the Year Selection Committee was chaired by Deloitte’s clients and markets partner for Singapore and Southeast Asia, James Walton.

The winners are due to be announced in a presentation ceremony at Marina Mandarin Hotel.
