The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) has announced it has launched a new website and domain name to incorporate the organisation’s baseball and softball divisions.

The new website showcases both baseball and softball together and separate sub-sections for both sports have also been created to allow for easier navigation among users.

The domain name has been changed to www.wbsc.org, which follows close collaboration between all stakeholders.

Other features of the new site include providing a bigger platform for the sport’s 140 National Federations in a bid to display its “universiality”, while there are special micro-sites for the WBSC World Championships and other major international events.

“We are very proud to announce that the new, multi-language website of the International Federation has been created and is now online,” WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari said.

“This new website is a symbol of a new era and journey together that leads to a very bright future for the growth and long-term partnership of baseball and softball.”

The development comes ahead of the start of the inaugural WBSC Premier12 baseball competition, which is due to get underway on November 8 and runs until November 21.

The competition will see the top 12 teams in the world battle it out in the first-ever tournament of its kind in the sport.

Group matches will take place in Chinese Taipei, with semi-finals and finals due to take place at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

World number one ranked Japan are in Group B alongside the United States, Olympic champions South Korea, Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Mexico.

Olympic silver medallists Cuba, Taiwan, The Netherlands, Canada, Puerto Rico and Italy make up Group A.

Before the event itself gets underway, Japan are scheduled to play host to South Korea in a special opener for the tournament at the 40,000-seat Sapporo Dome on Sunday (November 8).

The WBSC Premier12 microsite can be accessed here.

Baseball/softball was one of five additional sports recommended for inclusion at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, along with karate, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing.
