Deng lifted 146kg with her second attempt in the clean and jerk, going one better than the world record mark set by Chinese Taipei’s Tzu Chi Lin at last year’s Asian Games.

Having earlier won the snatch with a lift of 113kg, Deng’s total of 259kg saw her comfortably take the overall title with Russia’s Tima Turieva 11kg behind in second and North Korea’s Hyo Sim Choe in third on 243kg, following a body weight tiebreaker with Ukraine’s Yuliya Kalina and Kazakhstan’s Karina Goricheva. 

Turieva’s lift of 112kg was enough for silver in the snatch after finding herself on the right end of a body weight tiebreaker with Goricheva, who had to settle for bronze.

The clean and jerk podium was completed by Choe on 139kg and Turieva on 136kg with the latter no lifting twice at 141kg.  

By winning a hat-trick of gold medals, Deng has equalled the record of five held by Kazakhstan’s Maiya Maneza and Chinese Taipei’s Chen Yui-Lien since the introduction of the current weight categories in 1998.

"I’m happy to win these three gold medals; it’s a good achievement," said Deng, who was the reigning clean and jerk and overall champion coming into the event.  

"However, I still need to train harder because my opponents are never stopping."

The Chinese could have attempted to break the world record again through her one remaining lift, but having already secured victory on all fronts, she opted not to due to a slight leg injury. 

Meanwhile in the men’s 85kg, Russia’s Artem Okulov came away with the overall title after registering six good lifts.

Despite finishing runner-up to China's Tao Tian in the snatch with a lift of 176kg, Okulov topped the clean and jerk podium with 215kg to give him a winning total of 391kg.

Defending overall champion Kianoush Rostami of Iran had to settle for silver on this occasion with 387kg, while Okulov’s compatriot Apti Aukhadov rounded off the podium with 380kg.

Having lifted 173kg to take snatch bronze, Rostami missed out on clean and jerk and overall gold after failing in his attempts to equal the clean and jerk world record at 218kg and better it at 219kg.

His result of 214kg effectively handed the consistent Okulov two gold medals, but was still enough to ensure clean and jerk silver ahead of Aukhadov on 212kg.

The overall hopes of Tian, whose winning lift in the snatch was 178kg, were ended after he failed to lift with his three clean and jerk attempts at 211kg.

Earlier today, the women's 69kg C class and women's 63kg B class were both played out and won by Ecuador's Neisi Patricia Dajomes Barrera with 233kg and Nigeria's Oluwatoyin Victoria Adesanmi with 218kg respectively.

Following the A class action, Uzbekistan's Manzurakhon Mamasalieva topped the rankings in the women's 69kg B class with 233kg, while in the men's 94kg D class, Mexico's Rigoberto Perez Fuentes set the standard with 340kg.
