Serbia, who are also the reigning world champions, edged a close opening quarter 4-3 and then pulled away in the final stanzas.

They will now meet either Hungary or Montenegro, who collide tomorrow, in the final on Saturday (January 23).

With the winners of the tournament earning a spot at the Rio Olympics, the victors of tomorrow's semi-final will book their place at the Games as Serbia have already qualified thanks to their World title win in 2014.

There were hat-tricks from both Duško Pijetlović and Filip Filipović in their success today and they will be confident of keeping hold of the title they won in Budapest in 2014.

Elsewhere, The Netherlands cruised through to the last four on quarter-finals day in the women's competition.

The undefeated Dutch thrashed Germany 19-2 after storming into an 8-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Nomi Stomphorst, a member of the team which finished as runners-up last time out in Budapest, scored five times in the rout.

The Beijing 2008 Olympic champions will now meet European holders Spain in the semi-finals - the country who beat them in the Hungarian capital two years ago - in a repeat of last year's final.

The Spanish edged out Russia 12-8 in their last eight contest.

Two-times world champions Hungary also progressed thanks to a 18-6 win over France, and they will meet Athens 2004 Olympic gold medallists Italy who knocked out Greece 10-4.

Both last four clashes will take place tomorrow.
