Canadian snowboarder Mark McMorris successfully defended his Winter X Games slopestyle title after coming out on top in Aspen, Colorado today.

McMorris landed back-to-back triple-cork 1440s to post a score of 92.66 points on his second run and claim his fourth slopestyle gold medal.

"I stuck to the run I wanted to do," he said.

"I'm just so happy I stuck with the plan.

"I think the level of riding was higher than it's ever been.

"It's unreal it just keeps progressing."

McMorris’ compatriot Sebastien Toutant was 2.66 behind in second, while Norway’s Mons Røisland came third, 6.33 points adrift.

Meanwhile in the mono skier X event, France’s Jerome Elbrycht clocked a time of 1min 12.207sec to snatch victory from the United States’ Nikko Landeros, who having lost both his legs in a car accident in 2007 has since gone on to become a two-time Paralympic Games gold medallist in ice sledge hockey.

First-time Winter X Games medallist Landeros was just 0.338 seconds behind and was followed onto the podium by fellow American Kevin Bramble, 0.696 seconds off the pace.

Canada’s Brady Leman and Kelsey Serwa won the men’s and women’s skier X events respectively.

Leman registered a time of 48.571sec with France’s Bastien Midol taking silver and fellow Canadian Christopher Del Bosco winning bronze.

Serwa last won a gold medal at the Winter X Games in 2011 when she was involved in a hefty crash at the finish line, but she ended that five-year drought with a time of 51.417 as compatriot Marielle Thompson and France’s Alizee Baron completed the top three.

The snow picked up with two events left, reducing the snowboard superpipe final to one run as Colorado native Matt Ladley's score of 82.33 points saw him claim gold ahead of American Ben Ferguson and Australia’s Scotty James.

The ski big air final was delayed due to the weather but ultimately went the way of Switzerland’s Fabian Bosch, whose best-of-two-runs total of 86 ensured gold at the expense of the Bobby Brown of the United States and fellow Swiss Elias Ambühl.

Action in Aspen is set to conclude tomorrow.
