Chilean Olympic Academy President Jaime Agliati has been awarded the 2016 International Olympic Committee (IOC) Sport and Innovation Trophy for his "travelling museum" idea.

The prize was awarded at a meeting of the council of delegates affiliated to the Chilean Olympic Committee (COCH).

Agliati's idea, which will soon be opened to the public, sees the Olympic movement and lessons of Olympism taken on the road.

Awareness of Olympic values will be raised using an inflatable dome which can hold up to 45 visitors at once.

Once inside, a 3D animated film explains the history of the Olympic Games, from the first ancient editions to more modern times.

Chile's history at the Olympics is also explored, with the country currently looking ahead to Rio 2016.

Featuring heavily will be tennis player Nicolás Massú who won both of the Olympic gold medals Chile has claimed to date at Athens 2004.

He beat American Mardy Fish in the final of the men's singles, 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, and then followed that up with doubles success.

Along with Fernando González, the Athens singles bronze medallist who also won silver four years later in Beijing, the Chilean pair beat Germans Nicolas Kiefer and Rainer Schüttler 6-2, 4-6, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4.

Chile also won men's football bronze at Sydney 2000, but failed to pick up a medal at London 2012.

That was the first time they went home empty handed since 1996.
