Cambodia, Haiti, Honduras and Palau are set to be represented in wrestling competition at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games after being awarded universality places.

The decision was taken by the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Tripartite Commission, after they received requests from National Olympic Committees eligible for invitational places at the Games.

The Commission awards 110 places in 16 individual sports, which are then made available for allocation to the eligible NOCs.

Following their decision, Haiti will be represented at Rio 2016 by Asnage Castelly, who has been awarded a place in the men’s 74 kilogram freestyle event.

He will be joined in the weight category by Skilang Florian Temengil, with the wrestler due to compete for Palau.

Cambodia’s Sotheara Chov and Honduras’ Brenda Yamlyeth Bailey Gomez have been awarded places in the women’s 48kg competition.

“Wrestling is a worldwide sport and these athletes will make the most of their opportunity in Rio,” said Nenad Lalovic, United World Wrestling President.

“The Universality program gives Olympic opportunity, and hope, to nations who otherwise may not have it.”

The four spots add to the 114 Greco-Roman, 108 women’s and 114 freestyle places which have already been allocated through the UWW’s qualification process.

UWW have stated that four additional spots, which are normally awarded to the host country, are still to be determined by the Tripartite Commission.
