France beat United States in a repeat of last year’s women’s final to complete the successful defence of their International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 Under-18 World Championships title in Astana.

Having defeated The Netherlands 13-12 in the quarter-finals and then overcome Spain 15-14 in the last four, France downed the Americans 21-12 in the gold medal match.

America ensured their place in the final by firstly winning their last two Pool B encounters - 19-14 against hosts Kazakhstan and 21-12 against Italy - to take top spot.

That set up a last-eight tie with China, who they beat 18-10 before registering a 19-15 victory over Czech Republic in the semi-finals.

The bronze medal match between Spain and Czech Republic was won by the former, 18-12.

In the men’s final, Qatar beat Brazil 20-12 having defeated last year’s silver medallists Argentina 21-18 in the quarter-finals and defending champions New Zealand 21-16 in the last four.

Seydou Ndoye and Nedim Muslic, the world number one men's under-18 3x3 player, shined in the gold medal match for Qatar, scoring six points each.

Alen Hadzibegovic and Faris Sedikovic both contributed four points as well.

Victory for the Middle Eastern country means they are now the reigning 3x3 world champions in both the under-18 and senior categories, following their success at the 2014 FIBA 3x3 World Championships.

Despite losing their final Pool D encounter against New Zealand 21-8, Brazil edged into the knockout stage as runners-up behind the Kiwis thanks to an earlier 19-16 win over Spain.

The South Americans went on to beat Slovenia 19-13 in the quarter-finals and Italy 21-20 in a thrilling last-four contest.

Italy recovered from their devastating loss to secure the bronze medal with a 21-14 victory over New Zealand.
