Italy’s Rebecca Diane Perry and Laura Giombini booked their place in the main draw of an International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World Tour event for the first time this season after two victories at the Klagenfurt Major.

The duo eased to a straightforward 22-20, 21-17 victory over Slovakia’s Natalia Dubovcova and Nina Herelova in their first qualification match to close on a place in the main draw.

Their second tie proved a much tougher affair as the pair required a deciding set to eventually defeat France’s Alexandra Jupiter and Laura Longuet 21-14, 20-22, 15-10.

“This is great,” said Perry.

“We are playing more relaxed this week.

“With this event being our last tournament of the season, we worked hard with our coach and those practices paid off.

“We have won matches in the qualifying rounds, but never when it counted in advancing to the main draw.”

The duo overcame their opponents 21-17, 21-7, before going on to claim a 21-17, 21-18 victory over Switzerland's Nicole Eiholzer and Dunja Gerson.

In the men’s event, Brazil’s Vinicius Gomes and Marcio Guadie won the right to compete in the qualifier tomorrow after winning their country’s quota.

The pair defeated compatriots Daniel Lazzari and Arthur Mariano 21-17, 21-14 and then overcame Oscar Brandao and Thiago Santos Barbosa 14-21, 21-14, 15-10.
