Defending champions Argentina maintained their perfect start to the Women's World Championship of Rink Hockey by thrashing Egypt at the Playa Brava in Iquique in Chile.

The South Americans were hoping to build on their 9-1 victory over Colombia in the opening match of the tournamet and succeeded by cruising to a 14-0 triumph over the Egyptian side.

Argentina look poised to qualify for the next stage of the competition, with Italy set to join them after securing a 5-1 win over Brazil in their Group A match.

Having sealed a 16-0 win over Egypt, Colombia retain hope of reaching the next stage of the competition but will require another strong result when they face Italy tomorrow.

Spain moved to the top of the Group B standings as they overcome their neighbours Portugal by a 4-0 scoreline.

The victory saw them gain an element of revenge, having lost to Portugal in the last 16 at the 2014 edition of the event.

France are level with the Spanish team in the standings after recording an 8-0 win over South Africa in their match.

The top two teams are due to meet tomorrow to decide which team will advance as the group winners to the next phase.

Germany were 9-0 winners over India in the sole Group C match of the day, the result pulling them level with hosts Chile in the standings.

Both teams could seal their place in the second stage of the competition should they win their matches tomorrow against India and the United States.

This is the last stand-alone World Championship in the history of rink hockey because, starting from next year, the World Roller Games will join all three rink hockey World Championships - male, female and male under-20 - together for a single event in Nanjing in China.

The event is also enjoying complete TV coverage thanks to CDO, a Chilean cable-broadcasting company, and Canal 13.

FIRS TV, meanwhile, is streaming the event live online.
