The Badminton World Federation (BWF) Thailand Open is due to get underway tomorrow in Bangkok, with world number 19 Ihsan Maulana Mustofa the favourite in the men's singles.

The tournament, a Grand Prix Gold event, will be held at the Nimibutr Stadium with the finals taking place on Sunday (October 9).

Athletes will be competing for a total prize purse of $120,000 (£93,000/€107,000).

Indonesia's Mustofa, the number one seed, faces home favourite Suppanyu Avihingsanon in what could be a tricky opening match in front of a partisan crowd in the Thai capital.

Mustofa's compatriot Sony Dwi Kuncoro, the world number 26 and the competition's second seed, is set to take on another Thai player in world number 357 Pollakorn Jarasjindawong.

Home favourite Busanan Ongbumrungpan will be looking to add to the title she won at this year's Indonesian Masters in the women's singles.

Ongbumrungpan convincingly beat Malaysia's Jin Wei Goh in the Indonesian final at the Gedung Dome in Balikpapan, 21-15, 21-13.

The 20-year-old is seeded number three in Bangkok this week and takes on Ling Fang Hu of Chinese Taipei in round one.

Malaysia's Kien Keat Koo and his partner Boon Heong Tan will be looking to make the most of their number one seeding in the men's doubles competition.

The world number 16 pairing are set to take on Japanese duo Takuto Inque and Yuqi Kaneko in round one.

Home favourites Puttita Supajirakul and her partner Sapsiree Taerattanachai will be hoping to make the most of home advantage in the women's doubles.

The pair, who are ranked 15th in the world, are yet to know who their opponents in the first round will be as they await a winner of a pre-tournament qualification match.

In the mixed doubles tournament, there is further host nation expectation in the form of number one seeds Bodin Isara and Savitree Amitrapai.

The pair are ranked 15th in the world mixed doubles rankings and will take on Chinese Taipei's unseeded duo Tseng Min Hao and Ling Fang Hu.
