England's double Commonwealth Games silver medallist Heather Olver will retire from international badminton events after the Bitburger Open, due to get underway tomorrow.

The 30-year-old will compete in the women’s doubles with Jessica Pugh at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Grand Prix Gold event, being held at Saarlandhalle Saarbrucken.

Defeat in their first round match with Switzerland’s Celine Burkart and Cendrine Hantz would bring Olver’s career to an end.

She earned mixed doubles silver with Chris Langridge at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and replicated the feat as part of the mixed team event for England.

Olver had earned a Commonwealth games mixed team bronze medal in New Dehli four years earlier and has claimed she was fortunate to have had those highs during her career.

"It is now time for me to end this chapter of my life with very fond memories," Olver said.

"Although I may not be the most decorative or most successful player around, I feel very fortunate to have had the long career I have had and I’m proud of what I have achieved along the way.

"With many highs and lows along the journey it is still one I wouldn't change for the world."

While Olver’s career is drawing to a conclusion, Indian brothers Sourabh and Sameer Verma will hope to add to their growing reputations when they compete in Germany.

Sourabh Verma will head into the tournament on a high after winning the Chinese Taipei Masters, which has aided his rise to 56th in the men’s singles rankings.

He is due to face sixth seed Ihsan Maulana Mustofa of Indonesia tomorrow.

His younger brother Sameer, recently crowned as the Indian national champion, will also be looking to make an impact on proceedings.

The tournament's 12th seed is scheduled to begin his campaign against German qualifier Alexander Roovers.
