More than 400 children took part in a fun run as part of an Olympic Festival organised by the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV).

The run, backed by world governing body the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), took place outside the COV's headquarters in capital city Caracas.

The youngsters were also given the chance to try out other track and field disciplines, including pole vault, javelin and hurdling.

More than 100 of the group then visited the COV's offices and received certificates as part of the "Olympism goes to school" programme.

The work with the country's youth comes after the COV designed an Olympic rings-based physical activity project, which was unveiled at the Olympic Village in Rio de Janeiro in August.

Approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and initiated by COV President Eduardo Álvarez, the project brought together a group of Venezuelan athletes and technicians to develop a leisure and training system incorporating the Olympic rings.

The South American country won three medals at the Games in Rio, which took place on their home continent.

Yulimar Rojas claimed silver in the women's triple jump, with Venezuelans also collecting two bronze medals.

These came courtesy of boxer Yoel Finol and cyclist Stefany Hernández, who were third in the men's flyweight and women's BMX competitions respectively.
