Japan’s Sara Takanashi claimed her second consecutive victory at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup event in Lillehammer to continue her perfect start to the defence of her overall title.

Takanashi jumped 95.5 metres and 98.0m to outscore the rest of the field on total of 268.1 points as her team-mate Yuki Ito finished in silver medal position on 255.4.

Ito had also claimed second place during yesterday’s season-opening competition in the 1994 Winter Olympic Games host city.

Jaqueline Seifriedsberger of Austria finished 5.4 points adrift of Ito, a member of the Japanese team which claimed gold medals in the mixed team event at the 2013 World Championships in Val di Fiemme, in third.

Seifriedsberger denied compatriot Daniela Iraschko-Stolz, the Olympic silver medallist, who secured the World Cup title in the 2014 to 2015 season, a podium spot as she recorded efforts of 93.5m and 95.0m respectively.

Iraschko-Stolz was a mere 0.4 points shy of a top-three finish after jumping 93.5m and 94.5m.

"Yesterday I was still a little early with my jump," Takanashi, who already has 46 World Cup victories to her name at the age of 20, said.

"Today it worked better so could get more pressure on my skis.

"I already jumped in Nizhny Tagil a few times, the hill is completely different from the one in Lillehammer.

"So I just want to show a good performance in Russia."

Takanashi leads the way on the overall Ski Jumping World Cup standings with a maximum 200 points from the opening two events of the campaign.

Ito is 40 points behind in second, while Seifriedsberger occupies third on 110.

The next women’s event on the World Cup calendar is scheduled to take place from December 9 to 11 in Nizhny Tagil in Russia.

In the men's competition, held in Klingenthal in Germany, double Olympic champion Kamil Stoch spearheaded victory for Poland in the team event.

Stoch earned 294.8 of Poland's total of 1128.7 points with jumps of 139m and 140m.

Poland, whose team also featured Dawid Kubacki, Piotr Zyla and Maciej Kot, finished over 40 points in front of nearest challengers Germany.

Markus Eisenbichler led the way for Germany with efforts of 137.5m and 136m as his side ended on 1087.2 points.

Austria were third on 1086.3 points.

The men are due to compete in an individual event tomorrow.
