Victories for Mayu Mukaida of Japan and China's Pei Xingru at the Senior World Championships in Budapest last month helped them secure the final two positions on United World Wrestling’s year end rankings for women’s wrestling.

Mukaida, who won her first senior title 100 days after taking the junior freestyle 55 kilogram title in Macon in France, becomes the fifth wrestler from Japan to finish the year atop her respective category after her country’s imperious Rio 2016 display in which they won four of the six gold medals on offer at the Olympic Games.

Russia's Irina Ologonova, the 2016 European champion, lies in second place while Mongolian Davaasükhiin Otgontsetseg completes the top three.

Asian championship silver medallist Aiym Abdildina of Kazakhstan failed to qualify for Rio 2016 but produced wins over three European opponents to snatch a bronze medal in Budapest, lifting her from unranked to fourth in the standings.

Pei meanwhile, who won a bronze medal in the 60kg event in Macon, defeated 2013 World Championships bronze medallist Emese Barka of Hungary on her way to the final where she defeated Allison Ragan of the United States in the Hungarian capital.

In doing so, Pei became the first wrestler from China to win a world title since the 2013 World Championships, also held in Budapest, where Sun Yanan and Zhang Fengliu both triumphed.

Following her success, Pei also climbed to the top of the world rankings, overtaking the two athletes she defeated in Budapest.

Ragan occupies second in the standings while Barka sits in third.

Elsewhere in the year-end rankings, every Rio 2016 Olympic champion tops their respective weight category.

Japan dominate the rest of the rankings following their Olympic domination in Rio de Janeiro last year.

Eri Tosaka leads the 48kg event while her compatriot Kaori Icho sits at the head of the 58kg division.

Risako Kawai claimed top spot in the 63kg while Sara Dosho completes the Japanese dominance as she tops the 69kg standings.

Helen Maroulis of the US is one of two non-Japanese wrestlers to headline their division as she claimed top spot in the 53kg event while Canada's Erica Wiebe finished at the top of the 75kg rankings.
