Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar attended an open sports programme event designed to offer the country's citizens an opportunity to exercise.

The first day of the programme took place at the Dohat Arad Park in Muharraq.

The event was part of the BOC's annual plan to hold a string of sporting and social activities for the public.

It is also in line with the directives of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa - the representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs and the BOC President - who is attempting to involve the entire Bahrain society in various sporting activities.

Other events will be hosted over the coming weeks.

A number of male and female coaches, specialised in sports training, will be present at all of the events to supervise those taking part, with a "walkathon" part of the schedule.

Programme coordinator Salha Al Rumaihi, who is a sports specialist at the BOC, said the coaches will provide assistance to those attending the event and give advice to them.

Al Rumaihi extended her appreciation to all the partners, ministries and coaches for their efforts in bringing the events to Bahrain.
