Switzerland’s Christoph Kunz claimed his first International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing World Cup victory since 2014 in Innerkrems in Austria today, beating world champion Corey Peters of New Zealand as super-G action took centre stage.

Almost three years to the day since Kunz won the same discipline in French resort Tignes, the double Paralympian crossed the line to secure the win in 1 min 15.59sec.

Peters was 0.62sec behind for his second podium finish of the week, having won one of two downhill races on Thursday (January 12).

The United States’ Andrew Kurka came third, 1.09 off the pace.

Sochi 2014 Paralympic silver medallist Claudia Loesch of Austria followed up her double downhill win from Thursday in the women’s sitting, clocking a time of 1:17.54.

Paralympic and world champion Anna Schaffelhuber of Germany was 1.20 behind in the runners-up spot, while Japan’s Momoka Muraoka was four seconds back in third.

Guided by Fabrizio Casal, Italy’s Giacomo Bertagnolli found some excellent form in the men’s visually impaired as he stormed to his first speed win of the season in 1:14.12.

The 17-year-old triumphed ahead of Slovakia’s Miroslav Haraus and guide Maros Hudik, second in 1:14.68, and Canada’s Mac Marcoux and guide Jack Leitch, third in 1:14.94.

In the women’s visually impaired, Great Britain’s Millie Knight continued her impressive podium run with victory in 1:19.43.

The 17-year-old has finished in the top three at every single World Cup race so far this season, including two wins in the downhill on Thursday with guide Brett Wild.

Vancouver 2010 Paralympic champion Henrieta Farkasova of Slovakia, guided by Natalia Subrtova, was 0.95 behind in the runners-up position to maintain a series of podium finishes since returning to competition last month after more than two years away.

Knight’s Paralympic gold medal-winning team-mate Kelly Gallagher was third with guide Gary Smith, 6.40 back.

Paralympic title holder Markus Salcher claimed the second win of the day for Austria in the men’s standing.

The 25-year-old, who triumphed in 1:13.44, is unbeaten in Innerkrems having won both downhill races.

Switzerland’s Thomas Pfyl was second in 1:16.25, while The Netherlands’ Jeffrey Stuut sealed his first World Cup podium with a third-place finish in 1:16.33.

Germany’s World Championship silver medallist Andrea Rothfuss was the victor in the women’s standing, 0.86 ahead of Canada’s Alana Ramsay with a time of 1:20.59.

Dutch skier Anna Jochemsen was third, 4.69 behind.

High winds meant that the second set of super-G races scheduled for today was cancelled.

The super combined is currently still set to take place tomorrow.

Those competing in Innerkrems are continuing their preparations for the 2017 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships, which are scheduled to be held in Tarvisio in Italy from January 22 to 31.

The Championships are expected to attract 130 of the world’s best skiers from 25 countries.
