Anna Gasser backed up her qualification performance at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard World Cup slopestyle event in style as the Austrian won the women’s competition in Kreischberg.

Gasser had topped the qualifying standings yesterday at the resort, where she had won a silver medal back at the World Championships in 2015.

She would seal a triumph in front of a home crowd by achieving a score of 81.25 points, while leaving the rest of the field trailing in her wake.

Switzerland’s Sina Candrian would finish closest to the Austrian, but she was some way adrift by ending with a score of 69.95.

The podium was completed by Norway’s Silje Norendal, who scored 62.90.

There was Norwegian success in the men’s competition as Mons Roysland earned a total of 84.25 to win the event.

America’s Ryan Stassel and Redmond Gerard ended second and third respectively, scoring 83.30 and 81.35 respectively.

Men’s and women’s freestyle skiing slopestyle action also took place in Font Romeu, but the season opening World Cup was affected by weather.

Clear conditions had allowed qualification to take place in the morning in France, but deteriorating weather conditions forced these results to stand at the end of the day as the finals were cancelled.

As a consequence, France’s Tess Ledeux would earn victory in the women’s event by achieving a score of 81.60.

Norway’s Johanne Killi and Anouk Purnelle-Faniel of Canada completed the podium with scores of 80.00 and 78.40 respectively.

The United States’ McRae Williams triumphed in the men’s event with a score of 92.80, finishing clear of second place Jesper Tjader of Sweden

The Swedish skier would finish with a score of 91.40, while Canada’s Alex Bellemare ended in third place on 90.60.
