Great Britain's Olympic cyclist Ciara Horne has claimed she is "incredibly lucky" after being knocked off her bike by a car on her morning commute into work.

The 27-year-old was travelling from her home in the Welsh capital of Cardiff to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, where she is employed as a physiotherapist, when the accident took place.

She was taken to hospital immediately after the incident which took place in the town of Talbot Green.

"I got off incredibly lucky," Horne said, according to Wales Online.

"It’s quite a shock.

"It has given me a bit of a fright.

"I remember hitting the side of the car, in the window area, and witnesses have said I went straight across the windscreen.

"I landed the other side and felt my head spinning.

"I thought I’d fractured my jaw."

Horne was part of the British team at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

She formed part of the team pursuit squad but was not picked to compete in the final as Britain claimed gold in a world record time.
