Rio 2016 silver medallist Bárbara Seixas de Freitas of Brazil is through to the semi-finals of the International Volleyball Federation Beach (FIVB) World Tour event in Poreč.

The South American, competing alongside partner Fernanda Alves, won their round three match at the resort town of Peškera Ba this evening.

It was an all-Brazilian affair with de Freitas and Alves defeating compatriots Larissa Franca Maestrini and Talita da Rocha Antunes 22-20, 18-21, 15-12.

Standing between them and a place in the final are Canada's Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes.

The North Americans came from a set down to beat Swiss duo Anouk Verge-Depre and Joana Heidrich 24-26, 21-15, 20-18.

The other semi-final will see the Czech pairing of Barbora Hermannova and Marketa Slukova play Swiss duo Tanja Huberli and Nina Betschart.

In an all-Czech quarter-final, Hermannova and Slukova came from a set down to beat compatriots Kristyna Kolocova and Michala Kvapilova 15-21, 21-12, 15-10.

Huberli and Betschart, meanwhile, recorded a 21-19, 22-20 straight sets win over Sara Hughes and Kelly Claes of the United States.

In the men's competition defending champions Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt from Brazil are through to round two of the men's event.

The Olympic champions were, however, forced into playing another match this evening after finishing second in their group.

The South Americans were beaten by Italy's Paolo Nicolai and Daniele Lupo 21-14, 21-18 earlier today which saw them drop to second place.

They still made it through after defeating Austria's Robin Seidl and Tobias Winter 21-10, 21-14 in a play-off this evening.

Last year's runners-up Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst of Austria are through to round two in the men's event.

The duo won all three of their Pool B matches.

Joining them in the next round are Americans Casey Patterson and Theodore Brunnero who secured first place in Group A.

Action is due to continue with rounds two and three in the men's event as well as the semi-finals and medal matches in the women's competition.
