New Zealand moved up to fourth place in the International Cricket Council Women’s World Cup standings after thrashing the West Indies by eight wickets at the County Ground in Taunton today.

The Kiwis made short work of the 151-run target with Rachel Priest putting on an opening stand of 120 with captain Suzie Bates to complete the chase in 18.2 overs.

Priest struck 17 fours and two sixes in a blistering 54-ball 90.

It came after Lea Tahuhu and Leigh Kasperek had picked up three wickets each to bowl the West Indies out for 150 in 43 overs.

West Indies’ defeat was their fourth in as many outings at the tournament, having also lost to Australia, India and South Africa.

Kyshona Knight top scored with 41 for the reigning World Twenty20 champions, who remain rooted to the foot of the table.

New Zealand have leapfrogged South Africa into fourth spot by virtue of a slightly superior run rate.

Both teams have five points with hosts England on six and Australia and India tied at the top on eight.

Competition is due to continue on Saturday (July 8), following a rest day tomorrow.

New Zealand are set to face Pakistan in Taunton, while South Africa are scheduled to meet India at Grace Road in Leicester.
