National Olympic Committee of Portugal (COP) director general João Paulo Almeida gave a keynote speech at an event which brought together Portuguese-speaking countries.

The second Forum of Sport of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) was held in Gondomar, a city in northern Portugal.

Nine Lusophone countries were involved at the CPLP - most notably Portugal and Brazil, who hosted the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste are also members.

In his speech, Almeida addressed the challenges and threats towards the integrity of sport.

A panel was moderated by journalist Alexandre Afonso and was attended by José Lima, a representative of the National Plan for Ethics in Sport.

João Paulo Rebelo, the secretary of state for youth and sport, chaired the Forum.

Diogo Guia and Emanuel Medeiros attended on behalf of the International Center for Sport Security.

In 2004, the Association of Portuguese Speaking Olympic Committees was founded in Lisbon.

The organisation runs the Lusophony Games, last held in Goa in India in 2014.
