The Qatar Olympic Committee's (QOC) summer training programme for university students is up and running.

Seven students from Qatar University are taking part in the four-week course in the Gulf nation.

According to the QOC, the aim of the programme is to give students detailed information about the work environment to develop their personal skills.

This fits in with the QOC's strategy to support youth and educational activities, as well as boosting human development.

All of the students taking part held a meeting with the QOC's human resources department, where they were briefed about the course's objectives and methods of work at QOC departments.

Sheikh Al Sahli, the head of the QOC Training and Development Unit, said the governing body organised the event "in an effort to provide students with information about the requirements of the Qatari labour market and to develop their experience and work skills".

Qatar won their first-ever Olympic silver medal at Rio 2016 last year.

It came courtesy of high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim who claimed second spot in the Brazilian city.

Before then, Qatar had only ever won four bronze medals.
