Two Dutch seeds were among players to reach the quarter-finals of the women's singles draw as the US Open United States Tennis Association Wheelchair Championships began in St Louis today.

Third seed Aniek van Koot cruised through for the loss of just one game.

She thrashed Natalia Mayara of Brazil 6-1, 6-0 at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park.

Fourth seed Marjolein Buis joined her fellow countrywomen after a similar straightforward 6-1, 6-1 win over American Elizabeth Williams.

Dutch number one and second seed Diede de Groot received a bye into the last eight stage along with Japanese top seed Yui Kamiji.

Other winners today included Britain's Lucy Shuker, who impressed in defeating Saki Takamuro of Japan 6-3, 6-0.

It comes in the 32nd edition of the world’s oldest wheelchair tennis tournament, part of the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour.

All the top ranked players received a bye today in the men's and quads singles events.

There was an entertaining first round tie nonetheless in the men's singles draw, though, as Casey Ratzlaff overcame fellow American Todd Hanover 6-1, 7-6(3).

Frenchman Stephane Houdet is seeking a third successive men's singles title.

Action is due to continue tomorrow before concluding on Sunday (September 3).
