Men's top seed Hsu Jen-hao was knocked out as the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Vietnam Open continued today in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Chinese Taipei player lost his third round clash in three against Japan's Kodai Naraoka at the Nguyen Du Stadium.

Naraoka triumphed 21-17, 17-21, 21-15 to book his place in the quarter-finals.

It means Hsu will not add to the mixed team title he won with his country at their home Universiade in Taipei last month.

Thailand's Khosit Phetpradab is now the top-ranked player left in after the third seed ousted Japan's Yu Igarashi.

Phetpradab won 21-19, 21-15.

Vietnam's best chance of a home winner, ninth seed Nguyễn Tiến Minh, was also knocked out.

In the women's competition, second round matches were played as players also bid for a spot in the last eight.

Japan's top seed Sayaka Takahashi defeated Vietnam's home hope Nguyễn Thùy Linh 21-14, 21-11 to progress.

Indonesia's second seed Hanna Ramadini is also through, defeating Yeo Jia Min of Singapore 21-18, 21-16.

Vietnam do still have hope for a home winner as their fourth seed Vũ Thị Trang progressed.

She beat Thailand's Sarita Suwannakitborihan 21-16, 21-18 to make the quarter-finals.

Last eight matches will take place tomorrow.
