Hosts Morocco comfortably beat debutants Namibia 2-0 to book their place in the semi-finals of the African Nations Championship.

The Moroccan side always looked on course for a straightforward win when they took a two-goal lead at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca.

Morocco, who replaced Kenya as hosts after they were stripped of the event due to concerns over infrastructure, opened the scoring eight minutes before half-time through Ayoub El Kaabi.

The home team doubled their advantage shortly after the restart as Salaheddine Saidi moved them to the brink of the semi-finals.

Namibia thought they had found a way back into the match but Itamunua Keimuine's goal was disallowed 20 minutes from time.

Namibia, who were not expected to progress from the group stage, were unable to breach the Moroccan defence as the host nation held on.

The win gave football in the country a further boost after they finally launched their bid for the 2026 World Cup earlier this week.

Morocco's victory set up a semi-final meeting with either Nigeria or Angola, who play tomorrow.
