The Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Torch has today visited Gangneung on the penultimate day of its Relay prior to the Winter Olympic Games.

The stop saw the Torch travel from Gyeongpo Beach to Gangneung City Hall's Imyeongdae Belfry Square via the Baedali Shelter, Samojeong Pavilion and the Songjeong-dong Community Service Center.

A grand celebration took place at Imyeongdae Belfry Square on what was the eve of the Games.

Today's programme also included performances by the Puneoli Percussion Group, the Alliance of Gangneung Art and Culture Group's youth choir, the Gangneung Geongeum Village Yongmuldalgi Conservation Association, and the Gangneung Sacheon Hapyeong Dabgyo Play Conservation Association.

Other places to have welcomed the Torch in the past week have been Wonju, Yeongwol, Taebaek, Samcheok, Donghae and Jeongseon.

Tomorrow will see the Torch travel to Pyeongchang for the Opening Ceremony of the Games at the Olympic Stadium.

The Pyeonchang 2018 Winter Olympic Torch embarked on a 2,018 kilometres journey around South Korea after arriving in Incheon on November 1.

By the start of the Games tomorrow, it will have visited 17 cities and provinces and will have been carried by 7,500 Torchbearers.

The journey followed a lighting in traditional fashion in Ancient Olympia in Greece on October 24.

The flame was officially handed over to South Korean officials during a ceremony at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens on October 31.

There are still no clues on who will be the final Torchbearer.

Back in 1988, South Korean capital Seoul broke new ground with three final bearers - representing sport, culture and education - to ignite the flame.
