The Egyptian Olympic Committee (EOC) has announced a new deal with fitness and diet company DNAFit.

It will see the organisation incorporate genetic testing into the EOC, with individual training and diet plans created for all potential Olympians.

Athletes on the path to the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games are set to benefit as part of the deal.

DNAFit, who were shortlisted for the performance technology of the year prize at the BT Sport Industry Awards, will carry out swab tests on Egyptian competitors.

This will allow them to analyse genetic information and create individual athlete profiles.

An initial agreement between DNAFit and the Egyptian Federation of Modern Pentathlon (EFMP) has led to the deal.

The EFMP were the first federation to action an EOC recommendation to bring the fitness company on board.

Sharif Al Erian, secretary general of the EOC, said: "This is an exciting partnership that will go a long way to ensuring our athletes have the best possible preparation for future competitions and the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

"We are delighted that the Egyptian Federation of Modern Pentathlon has embraced the potential of genetics, and urge other Member Federations to explore for themselves."

DNAFit has also renewed an existing deal with the Egyptian Football Association, with the country's men's team preparing for the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Avi Lasarow, chief executive of DNAFit, added: "It is a proud day to be endorsed by the Egyptian Olympic Committee, and we very much look forward to working with their elite athletes to prepare them for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

"It is further evidence of Egypt's proactive attitude in adopting the most pioneering approaches to sports science, and we are excited to continue on our journey together."
