Overall leaders Andrey Lamov and Tove Alexandersson claimed sprint success as the Ski Orienteering World Cup Final began in Vermont.

Both athletes went into the season-ending International Orienteering Federation event at the American venue seeking to wrap up the World Cup titles.

Russia's Lamov strengthened his claim at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center as he finished the course in 12min 47.7sec.

Two Norwegians collected the minor medals with Audun Heimdal coming home in 13:16.0 for silver.

Bronze went to Jorgen Madslien in 13:16.7.

Sweden's Alexandersson claimed a similarly comfortable success in the women's event.

Russia's Mariya Kechkina earned the silver medal in 12:32.1 while Finland's Salla Koskela managed 12.35.2 for bronze.

The World Cup Final will now continue tomorrow with the middle distance races.
