Teneil Campbell continued Trinidad and Tobago's strong cycling performance at the Central American and Caribbean Games as she claimed the women's road race title in Barranquilla.

Campbell ended her wait for a gold medal on her debut at the Games as she emerged victorious in a sprint finish on the streets of the Colombian city today.

The 20-year-old had won bronze in the pursuit, omnium and scratch races in the track cycling events and finally got her hands on a Central American and Caribbean Games crown by timing her sprint for the line to perfection.

Campbell's winning time was 2 hours 31min 47sec as she edged Yudelmis Dominguez of Cuba and Lizbeth Salazar of Mexico, silver and bronze medallists respectively.

"Today's victory was an emotional one," Campbell wrote on her Facebook page.

"I'm really thankful to be surrounded by supportive, positive and hardworking individuals.

"Honestly I'm not quite sure how I would of gotten through the day without them."
