Mali have delivered an African team’s best performance at an International Basketball Federation Under-19 World Cup.

Their 77-62 triumph over New Zealand in the last 16 in the Greek city of Heraklion saw them write a new chapter in the record books.

Oumar Ballo racked up 15 points, Abdoul Karim Coulibaly 11 and Martin Diakite 10 in the Malians’ famous victory.

The Kiwis saw their score charts led by Sam Mennenga off the bench, with 13.

But it was Mali who took the spoils and their reward is a duel with Puerto Rico, who ended Argentina’s campaign with a 77-57 victory.
