There were mixed fortunes for hosts Argentina on the last day of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Snow Volleyball World Tour event in Bariloche.

While the men's Argentina 2 team of Leo Aveiro, Fabrizio Satriano, Sebastian Fernandez and Ramiro Nuñez took gold by defeating tournament favourites the United States, the women had to settle for silver.

Troy Field and siblings Riley, Maddison and Jameson McKibbin seemed to be on course for a second successive series win as they cruised through the first set 15-10.

However, the Plan de Corones/Kronplatz champions could not see off the hosts and after edging a tight second set it was the Argentine squad who triumphed, recording a 10-15, 20-18, 15-11 victory.

"This is incredible, I’ve never lived something like this," said Nuñez.

"This is even my first time on the snow!

"It was a crazy adventure from a group of friends who tried to do their best at every match of an amazing competition."

There was more joy for the hosts in the men's draw as Argentina 1 – Mauro Zelayeta, Bautista Amieva, Ian Mehamed and Santiago Aulisi – secured the bronze medal in a 15-11, 16-14 win against Russia's Dmitri Barsuk, Yury Bogatov, Nikita Kuzmin and Petr Bakhnar.

In the women's final Estefania Milesi, Laura Moreno, Brenda Churin and Victoria Pozzo Galdon of Argentina 2 were unable to end Brazil's winning run as their South American rivals took the title with a 15-7, 15-10 victory.

The trio of Juliana Felisberta Da Silva, Josemari Alves and Tainá Silva Bigi took just 24 minutes to clinch the gold as Brazil emerged as the only side to go through the tournament unbeaten.

"This was the best experience of my entire life," said Alves, who became a snow volleyball champion for the first time at 40-years-old.

"To play here was the biggest opportunity anyone could have given to me and I want to say FIVB truly showed to be many steps ahead with the decision of promote this new and magnificent sport.”

In the bronze medal match Maria Virginia Zonta, Julieta Puntin, Maria Virginia Tuliz and Cecilia Peralta of Argentina 1 won 15-12, 16-14 against Turkey's Ayse Dil, Simge Yalcin, Bahanur Gokalp and Merve Celebi.
