New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) President Mike Stanley toured the facilities at the Aspire Academy in Doha during a recent visit to Qatar.

Stanley discussed possible future collaboration between the NZOC and the Aspire Academy with director general Ivan Bravo.

The NZOC head, who has led the organisation since 2009, was given a tour of the venue by director of sport Markus Egger.

He praised the facilities on offer at the academy, built in 2004 and which includes the Aspire Dome, the world's largest indoor multi-purpose venue of its kind.

"I have travelled a lot and seen many places but Aspire is truly unique," Stanley said.

"The philosophy of combining sport and education under one roof, combined with exceptional facilities and international know-how, is really impressive and definitely enabling these young Qatari athletes to thrive."

It is possible the NZOC might look to use the Aspire Academy to help train New Zealand athletes for major sporting events in the future.
