Electronic Arts (EA) and FIFA have announced the creation of the FIFA 20 tournament Stay and Play Cup, looking to bring the football gaming community together during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of the Stay Home, Play Together initiative, EA, who produce FIFA video games has also donated $1 million (£803,000/€915,000) to Global Giving's Coronavirus Relief Fund.

The FIFA Stay and Play Cup will consist of a knockout tournament, featuring 20 international football clubs who will play head-to-head from April 15 to 19.

Clubs include English Premier League outfits Liverpool and Chelsea as well as Dutch champions Ajax and Spanish side Real Madrid.

Andrew Wilson, chief executive officer of EA is hoping the tournament can bring people together.

He said, "We want to bring the global football community together with the EA Sports FIFA 20 Stay and Play Cup, so millions of fans can experience the thrill of their favourite clubs and professional footballers playing - even when we have to be apart.

"Each team will also have professional footballers play for their team as nominated by the club.

"We're working to help people around the world find more ways to connect through play.

"Combined with relief contributions we are making, we hope to make a positive impact in people's lives during this challenging time."

EA are also running tournaments for other games produced by them including Apex Legends, The Sims 4 and EA Sports Madden NFL 20.
