Two new nations have joined the International Jump Rope Union (IJRU) - Italy and Chinese Taipei.

The Taiwan Kinetic Art Association has moved from being an IJRU observer to a provisional member, while the Italian Federation of Acrobatic and Choreographic Sport has also been granted provisional membership.

The IRJU's total number of members now stands at 56.

Their membership was confirmed when the IJRU Board of Directors met remotely last month.

As members, the national governing bodies can now take part in IJRU tournaments and participate in the IJRU General Congress, as well as provide personnel for IJRU committees and panels.

Moagi Sharp of Botswana has joined the IJRU Board and is Africa's representative on the body.

The President and founder of the Botswana Wrestling Foundation, Sharp began rope skipping in 2018 and organised Botswana's first National Rope Skipping Championship.

Sharp brings "lots of experience working within the Olympic pyramid" and has already registered 30 rope skipping clubs in Botswana, the IJRU said.

The IJRU was granted Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) observer status in 2018.

Jump rope was a demonstration sport at the 2019 World Urban Games.

GAISF in June signed up to the United Nations Alliance of Civilisation’s One Humanity campaign, which aims to use sport to promote diversity and positive societal changes, and the IJRU has expressed its public support for the campaign.

Its Board also approved four charters, which it says will soon be published; the Finance Committee Charter and Athletes Council Charter, a Code of Ethics and a Code of Conduct.
