Softball Europe has confirmed the cancellation of the European Masters Cup in Zagreb due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The second edition of the competition was scheduled to take place in October.

Softball Europe say the decision has been taken to keep the softball community safe.

The organisation highlighted that Croatia is considered a red zone for many European countries, meaning a 14-day quarantine period is required.

"Some of the European countries are facing the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic," said Gabriel Waage, Softball Europe President.

"My first thought goes out to all of our softball community, which I hope it is and will be safe."

The loss of the European Masters Cup from the sport's calendar means the entire European softball season has been cancelled for the first time.

Softball Europe say the 2021 season is expected to begin with an Under-12 Mix Qualifier event.

The competition is scheduled to take place in either April or May.
