Bad Gastein will host the first parallel slalom competition of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard World Cup of the season.

Three parallel giant slalom events have been held to date, with the latest competition taking place at Scuol in Switzerland on Saturday (January 9).

Qualification will take place tomorrow morning, with the top 16 athletes progressing to the latter stages of the competition.

Russia’s Sofia Nadyrshina and Igor Sluev will hope for further success following their victories in Scoul.

The duo overcame the challenge of Germany’s Ramona Hofmeister and Poland’s Michal Nowaczyk in the respective women’s and men’s parallel giant slalom finals.

Hofmeister leads the women’s World Cup standings prior to competition in Bad Gastein.

The men’s leaderboard is topped by Austria’s Benjamin Karl, who will eye victory at a home venue.

Team competitions are also scheduled to take place tomorrow.
