Annecy_2018_schools_projectNovember 11 - A book and DVD which aim to help schoolchildren "embrace the mountains and winter sports" has been launched in support of the Annecy 2018 bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"Education and the Olympism: from pole to pole" - a joint venture between the Annecy 2018 bid committee, the French Ministry of Education and the Haute-Savoie schools council - includes several themed dossiers for teachers, as well as multiple sequences of coursework.

The publication was created with help from teachers keen to share the history of the Alps and the French bid with their pupils in order to inspire them with the values which are the foundation of winter sports and the Olympism.

The publication will be distributed to Haute-Savoie primary school teachers and to secondary school teachers in Savoie, Haute-Savoie and the Rhône-Alpes Region.

The DVD version will be distributed throughout France.

The educational dossiers are linked to the main competition sites selected by the Annecy 2018 bid committee.

Many Olympic Champions and top flight athletes live in the region, and they act as guides within the publication, helping teachers to share the area's rich heritage with young people and inspiring them with its core values.

Each dossier focuses on a specific aspect of the primary or secondary school curriculum.

The content has been kept very "open", providing education professionals with numerous and varied teaching opportunities for their pupils.

The book version is accompanied by a DVD audiovisual aid with cartoons for primary schools, architectural documentaries about mountain resorts for secondary schools, sequences showing the origin of winter sports in the region, films shown at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, a presentation of Annecy's heritage, and more.

"We've committed to putting young people at the heart of the Games, and are already making Annecy 2018 the natural playground of their hopes and dreams, so they can begin to imagine the adventure that is tomorrow," declared Edgar Grospiron, chief executive officer of Annecy 2018.
