Tony_Blair_at_London_2012_lecternNovember 17 - Sir Craig Reedie, Britain's International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board member, has claimed that Tony Blair's personal apology to him regarding the former Prime Minister's incorrect spelling of his name shows the true class of the man.

Sir Craig was a vital member of the team that helped London secure the Olympic and Paralympics n Singapore in 2005 at a time when he served as the British Olympic Association (BOA) chairman.

This is a fact that is fully acknowledge by Blair in his autobiography titled A Journey,  but Sir Craig contacted the book's publishers Hutchinson to request that in reprints of book, he could be described by his correct name of Reedie rather than Tweedie, as he appears in the book.

The edit was quickly made by the publishers and Sir Craig was sent a revised copy of book with the correct spelling of his name along with a note from the former Prime Minister himself apologising for his error.

Sir Craig told insidethegames: "Obviously it was the most innocent of mistakes by Mr Blair but I wrote to the book's publishers Hutchinson simply to request that the name could be changed to my correct name in future reprints.

"I was very pleased to receive such a fast amendment to the error and also to receive a personal apology from Mr Blair in which he explained to me that the error was made on his long-hand account of the London 2012 bid.

"It really does show the true class of the man that he took the effort to make a personal apology and give an explanation for the error.

"I wrote a letter back to Mr Blair telling him as much and thanking him for taking the time out of his busy schedule to make a personal apology even though it was not necessary."

Alongside Sir Craig and Sebastian Coe, Blair was a huge factor in ensuring that London were awarded the 2012 Games as he arrived in Singapore in 2005 at the 11th hour and lobbied relentlessly on behalf of the capital; gaining crucial IOC votes that meant London saw off Paris in the final stage of the bid process.
