Tickets for the 2021 Winter Universiade in Lucerne have been released to the public with most seats available for free.

The Games in the Swiss city are due to take place between December 11 and 21 after COVID-19 shifted the student event from its original slot in January.

Fans can guarantee their place using the ticket portal which has been launched on the Lucerne 2021 website.

The only tickets to cost money will be for the curling semi-finals and finals, the ice hockey semi-finals and finals and the figure skating gala.

All tickets for these events will cost CHF10 (£8/$11/€9).

There will be no tickets made available for the Opening Ceremony at the Universiade Park on Europaplatz, due to "space considerations".

The Closing Ceremony, taking place immediately after the men's ice hockey final at the Bossard Arena in Zug, can be attended by anyone with a ticket for the game at no extra cost.

Tickets for all events can only be reserved online and are required even for the free sessions.

There will be no entry on the door, and everyone aged 16 or above will need to present a negative COVID-19 certificate.

However, once at the venues they will be able to move about freely without wearing masks or complying with social distancing.

The ticket portal can be accessed here.
