International Olympic Committee (IOC) vice-president Ser Miang Ng and IOC member Sari Essayah have been elected to the International Masters Games Association (IMGA) Executive Board.

Ser Miang and Essayah became part of the IMGA's ruling body during its recent General Assembly, where a series of changes to the constitution were also approved.

Gender equality, term length and independence were the main subjects of the major alterations to the document.

Singapore's Ser Miang is a longstanding IOC member and is serving his second four-year term as a vice-president.

The 72-year-old businessman, who first joined the IOC Executive Board in 2005 and unsuccessfully stood for President in 2013, has also led the IOC's Finance Commission for seven years.

Essayah became an IOC member in 2016 and chairs the Coordination Commission for the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.

The Finnish official is also part of the Los Angeles 2028 Coordination Commission and a member of her country's Parliament.

The addition of Ser Miang and Essayah to the IMGA Executive Board represents a boost to the organisation.

The General Assembly also heard progress reports from hosts of upcoming IMGA events, including the 2024 Winter World Masters Games in Lombardy.

Kansai in Japan had been due to host the World Masters Games this year before the event was pushed back to 2022 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I am delighted with the meeting and looking forward to start this journey with our members and host cities," IMGA President Sergey Bubka, a former member of the IOC Executive Board and an Olympic pole vault gold medallist, said.

"With these changes we will be able to continue to strengthen the master’s movement in line with good governance."
